With an asset base of over INR 32,000 crore, the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group has Sanjiv Goenka as its Chairman. The Group has over 45,000 employees and over a hundred thousand shareholders with annual revenues of up to INR 17,000 crore.

In the power sector, CESC, which has been generating power since 1899 in Calcutta, is in the midst of rapid growth, with an investment program of more than INR 35,000 crore aimed at raising generating capacity to 7000 MW in the next six years. Two more thermal power plants have been installed to meet the requirement of electricity. These are Chandrapur Thermal Plant which is a 600 MW project at Chandrapur, Maharastra and Haldia Thermal Plant which is 600 MW project at Haldia, West Bengal. Chandrapur project has already commissioned operation and Haldia thermal power plant was inaugurated on 26th November 2014. Phillips Carbon Black, the world’s second fastest-growing carbon black company, is also India’s largest. Spencer’s is a pioneer in Indian retailing with presence in more than 34 Indian cities. Saregama India has the largest repertoire of recorded music in India, while Harrisons Malayalam is a significant grower of natural rubber and tea in South India. In the IT space, Firstsource Solutions Ltd is among the top three pure play Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies in India and has a network of delivery centres spread across India, Ireland, Philippines, Sri Lanka, UK and USA.

Mr. Goenka has been the youngest-ever President of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). A past Chairman of the Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, he is also a former President of All-India Management Association (AIMA). Currently he is Chairman of International Management Institute (IMI) which has campuses in Delhi, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. Mr Goenka is presently a Member of the National Foundation for Corporate Governance set up by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. He was also a Member of the CII National Council on Corporate Governance and Regulatory Affairs for the year 2013-14.

In 2015, Mr Sanjiv Goenka was honoured with West Bengal’s highest civilian honour, ‘Banga Bibhushan 2015’ by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee and the Governor of West Bengal, K N Tripathi. Recently, Mr Goenka has been honoured by The Times of India Group Publication, Hello! as the Business Leader of the Year 2016.

The younger son of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group's Chairman Emeritus, Late Dr. Rama Prasad Goenka, Sanjiv Goenka is married to Preeti. They have a daughter, Avarna, and a son, Shashwat.

Sanjiv Goenka believes there is no replacement for the age-old virtues of sheer hard work, clear vision and the courage to bring an entrepreneurial streak into management. For him, there are no secrets to success which do not spring from perseverance, preparation, hard work and learning.
